Background

Founded in 1988, Just Around the Corner (JAC) is a local charity providing personal wellbeing and mental health development for children and young people.  We are probably best know for our Equine and Animal Assisted Learning, but also mentor through horticulture, pottery and much more.

Immediate and Present Need

Recently Wokingham Borough Council reported "There is an immediate and present need to create additional Post-16 SEND spaces in the borough, with a growing number of children with Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) starting to transition to the next stage of their education with an anticipated increase in 22,4% between the 2023/4 and 2028/9 school year".

Deliverables

JAC is well placed to respond to this need, we already have nearly 100 young people aged 7 - 18 attending every week on our varied mentoring programmes, plus 12 fulltime SEND students in our Post 16 education programme working on their NVQ in Equine or Animal Care.

However we are at near capacity at our Rehoboth Centre.  Keeping the balance of a quieter, less busy environment for sessions. whilst trying to keep a short waiting list.  In the summer term 2025 we had 38 on our waiting list. which is the highest it has ever been.  We don't want a waiting list at all.  So what is our plan?

Can you help?

We are the light to bring hope, purpose and a future to children and young people in our community.  We have seen amazing achievements from students who would otherwise have become NEET (Not in Education and Employment or Training). and we want to help more.

We have started to search for a second centre and of course the funding that is needed to acquire and resource it.  Please share our need as wide as possible if you know of a suitable property, please  donate or if you can help in another way, please get in touch.
