HEAD GROOM

 

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and flexible individual to support the Equine Assisted Learning team in the wider charitable work of Just Around the Corner’s Wellbeing Centre, Wokingham, www.jacoutreach.org

Hours: 30-40 per week with occasional weekends and Bank Holidays cover.

SUMMARY

You will oversee the daily equine operations at Just Around the Corner (JAC) and uphold the vision for the stables in line with JAC’s mission statement.

You will ensure the work of the stables is fully integrated into the work of the Charity, providing a safe and caring environment for vulnerable children and young people to participate in Equine Assisted Learning, Riding, Post 16 equine studies, work experience and volunteering.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of equine tasks, in a professional and proactive manner, ensuring a high standard of care to the horses, donkeys and other animals in our care.  

You will have a hands-on role while motivating, instructing and line managing the equine team members as assigned to do so.

GROOM Requirements

 

·        Full driving licence.

·        NVQ 3/BHS 2 in Horse Care, Riding and Management, equivalent qualification and/or demonstrate appropriate knowledge.

·        Demonstrable experience in the equine industry. 

·        Experience of identifying and making decisions regarding treatment of equine ailments.

·        Experience with managing horses in field kept and/or stabled environment.

·        Experience of riding a variety of horses including training of youngsters.

·        Experience of teaching riding and stable management theory.

·        Experience of working with children and young people.
